As Director of Music since 2017, Nick helps to create and guide the vision and scope of music instruction at this K-8 school, which opened its doors to educate highly gifted children in 1962. Nick is involved in different aspects of music making. He developed the instrumental music program in grades 5-8, which includes one intermediate ensemble, and one Advanced Combo Band. Under Nick's direction, the Advanced Combo Band earned 1st Place at the National Jazz in 2023 and 2nd Place in 2025. The ensemble also worked with Grammy winning engineer Bill Mims to record music at Sunset Sound, in Hollywood, California. Nick also teaches and develops a standards-based music curriculum that addresses the whole child, fosters critical thinking, and cultivates awareness of inclusivity in K-4 grade levels. While developing musical knowledge and skill, the curriculum purposefully integrates other academic content areas, such as reading and writing, social studies, and math. Nick is also involved in producing various performances throughout the academic year, including assemblies, concerts, and major school events.
